Falcons 1st Unofficial Preseason Depth Chart – FT Video by Michael Linson

“keep perspective of what the preseason is. If you’ve got a battle at left guard you need to call the same stuff… see them actually do the job. Otherwise you’re calling a different a set of plays and it’s not a fair evaluation.”

Michael Linson (MadMike) covers the release of the team’s first unofficial depth chart in this video below ⬇️

The Atlanta Falcons led by first year HC Arthur Smith, un-retired DC Dean Pees, and first year GM Terry Fontenot released the regime’s first depth chart of the year Tuesday 8/10/21.

Head Coach Arthur Smith – High Integrity, Accountable, Up-Front, Consistent

With players such as Dante Fowler, Jr and Kaleb McGary coming back from the reserve/COVID-19 and PUP lists, respectively, the coaching staff has shown they will bring them back slowly before throwing these guys back into a starting lineup. No matter if we had them pencilled in as a starter. They will not rob the teammates of reps they earned this far, they will be worked in slowly and earn their reps/ spot back.

As We’ve Seen in Camp

CB Kendall Sheffield has yet to build on a promising 2019 season. 2020 was supposed to be a huge year but quickly became letdown for the young corner. In camp he’s been a punching bag, allowing play after play after play, to everyone. As expected, he’s currently in a reserve position.

Notable change on Defense

While repeatedly expressing the defense will be “multiple”, defensive coordinator Dean Pees has implemented the 3-4 as his base formation. Yes, the depth chart on the 4 letter network is WRONG! 4-3? yet starter Bullard is missing altogether … be better! According to The Falcons Official Team Website it’s a 3-4 defense with our OLB/edge players as Steven Means, Jacob Tuioti-Mariner, and Fowler when he returns to a more prominent role. So the personnel in this base defense can resemble a 5-2 formation. This will force opponents to guess who’s rushing and should make us more stout against the run.

Surprises

At RB2 Cordarrelle Patterson is the current backup to starter Mike Davis. *Qadree Ollison has been limited at practice (no contact) since missing the team’s Open Practice 8/7. Worth mentioning RB5 D’Onta Foreman was signed on Monday.
2021 first rounder Kyle Pitts behind Hayden Hurst speaks to coach Smith wanting the rookie class to earn their spots. Nothing is given. Same with 2021 2nd round pick Richie Grant at the reserve S role.
DL Jonathan Bullard is slotted to start opposite Pro Bowler Grady Jarrett, with the athletic John Cominsky and “fireball” Marlon Davidson as backups.

Preseason

HC Arthur Smith to press after training camp on 8/10/21.

HC Arthur Smith on strategy in the Preseason,

“keep perspective of what the preseason is. If you’ve got a battle at left guard you need to call the same stuff… see them actually do the job. Otherwise you’re calling a different a set of plays and it’s not a fair evaluation.”

We have more than just a LG spot available. This mindset should allow us to field the best team possible. Let’s go!
